Airport apron with recessed Gatic access covers and a cargo freighter

Applications

Integrated access & surface water systems

Where wheel loads are extreme and water has nowhere to stand — that is where the Gatic system earns its specification.

Airports

Aprons, taxiways and terminal stands

Aircraft keep getting bigger and heavier. Gatic multispan and recessed covers protect fuel, hydrant, lighting and cable pits on aprons and taxiways, while Slotdrain linear channels carry stormwater off the pavement.

Gatic systems have been installed at civil and military airports from Heathrow Terminal 5 to Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok, Macau, Changi and Kuala Lumpur.

Ports & docks

Container terminals, quays and yards

Huge numbers of containers pass through ports daily — under straddle carriers, terminal tractors and reach stackers that impose punishing slow-moving wheel loads. Gatic heavy-duty covers and gratings, rated E600 and F900, are engineered to stay flush and non-rocking when correctly installed.

Reference installations include Southampton Container Terminal and Tilbury (Gatic ports and airports literature). DP World London Gateway's all-electric Berth 4 is a recent Gatic installation, reported in the Alumasc Group plc Annual Report 2026.

Surface water drainage

Slotdrain — control of runoff, whatever the environment

Large paved areas generate extreme runoff. Gatic Slotdrain linear channels use a self-cleansing 'V'-shaped profile to carry flow with no gratings to clog or lift, and the UltraSlot system is available in load ratings up to F900 for heavy-duty port and airport duty.

A single integrated system — channels, underground pipework, collection boxes and access covers — engineered to work together.

Roads, utilities & urban

Everyday infrastructure, invisible covers

From carriageway and kerbside duty to pedestrian precincts and internal floors, recessed covers infilled with concrete or paviours are machined to sit flush with their surroundings and stay non-rocking when correctly installed.

The same system serves utilities, water and sewage treatment works, pumping stations, power stations and substations, data centres and tunnels.
